It's a small investment for healthy hair and skin. Google 'how hard water affects hair and skin'. Test your water with this $10 Water Testing Kit from MalibuC
Treat your hair like a fine fabric. All the scrubbing, rubbing, and heat is a recipe for fade, frizz, and dry hair. If you wash every day, start at every other day, and keep going from there. Does your hair feel goopy/oily after a couple days? A common reason is using too much product! Use professional products, which are very concentrated, and use a lot less! Be patient, it was hard for me at first too. And use dry shampoo. (see below for important application tips)
The best time to apply is right before it starts to look oily, don't wait until you hate it. Apply before bed. This allows the dry shampoo time to absorb the oil, and any white cast it leaves. Shake can well as ingredients can separate. Hold 10-12in to avoid over-saturating and build-up; apply with a swiping motion directed to scalp area, and only to areas that gets oily. Do not linger, ONE SWIPE EACH SECTION ONLY. Shake your head up, down, all around, BUT DO NOT TOUCH IT. Sweet dreams!
My clients have confirmed that adding this to their regimen helps control fade. The same applies to going out in the sun, before swimming, or using irons, a quality oil works also. I have a client that loves driving with her top down, exposing her hair to the Houston sun. We noticed that by adding MorroccanOil before going out greatly reduced dryness and fading significantly.
Scalp and hair are two different surfaces. Only apply shampoo to scalp area, and conditioner to the hair shaft. Technically, your hair is not oily, the oil comes from the scalp. Use the specific shampoo and conditioner to treat each separately. A trick if your hair is very dry... apply conditioner to hair shaft FIRST, then apply shampoo to scalp. OR, just don't use shampoo at all. I have several clients who have done this successfully for years. FYI: Both oily and dry scalp can cause flakes
Nothing fades hair color faster than hot water. You don't wash your vibrant clothing in hot water, this works the same way. NOTE: If that's your goal, expediting fading could produce an undesired result.
If you wash your hair, and/or use any styling products, YOU NEED TO DO A CLARIFYING TREATMENT ON THE REGULAR. My favorite brands for this is MalibuC and k18. They have the clarifying remedy for all hair types and issues. I PROMISE YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR HAIR AND SCALP.
You need a heat protectant if you use heat to style.
Do not wash for a minimum of 5-7 days after a hair color service, giving your freshly applied color application time to set. It WILL last longer. I've seen with my own eyes that waiting a week slows the fade so much better!
Whether it's hot water, or the sun, heat is the culprit. Especially if you're going to spend prolonged time in the sun, also apply a quality oil or conditioner to the hair that will be exposed.
Everyone can benefit from the use of a sleep cap (link goes to Blissy), in addition to your silk pillowcase. Keeps your style in place, and less friction. Please wash your new sleep cap before using, and wash weekly to prevent bacteria that can cause breakouts, more often if you tend to sweat. Be sure to scroll down and read the reviews. Users have confirmed that using both the pillowcase and cap gives optimum control and health of the hair.
An oldie but (still) a goodie. A lot less 'crazy hair' in the morning. Any friction to your hair causes the delicate cuticle layer to open. The smooth surface of a quality/ genuine Mulberry silk pillowcase (there's a lot of fakes on Amazon) will keep your hair smoother and healthier. Great for skin too!
